Born in Long Beach, California, to Richard E. Wagner and Barbara J. Wagner, he is the youngest of six children. RJ attended Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado and received a BFA in Music Theatre. He has also studied with Helaine and Michael Lembeck of the renowned Harvery Lembeck Comedy Workshop. His debut film was Awesome Lotus in 1983.
